I love this time of year! As the evenings get lighter and the sun moves in the sky the sunsets that we see from the house are just fabulous.
Coming In To Sunset Season
Of course the camera and the eye see sunsets in different ways. In my image above, I have tried to show what the eye sees, the amazing fire of the sky contrasted with the shadows and residual color of the olive grove beneath.
What I think is great about this image is that the sun is setting behind the hills of Tuscany but the olive groves are in Umbria. It is such a wonderful view to Montepulciano and beyond which would take about an hour to drive.
My Favorite Sunset
It is difficult to pick a favorite sunset. At one time I took hundreds of sunset shots. It seems to me that each one is different.
I think they are best when there are clouds as you get such a depth to the image from the sun and shadow combinations. Or perhaps when there has been a storm and the clouds are really heavy. Like this image ‘Paciano Sunset’.
Putting myself on the spot, I think my favorite sunset is one I took a few years ago at the height of sunset season (May) when there are blue skies, clouds and sun rays to be captured. ‘Rays At Sunset’ just works beautifully.
I look forward to sunsets and finding how many different new ways I can find to capture them!
