I created a video ‘Creating Italian Memories’ which is a collaboration between me, One Stop Italy and Johannes Hirschmann. I am going to explore the creative process in this blog. I will talk a bit about how I came to be working with Gillian Dearnley from One Stop Italy and Johannes and the fun I had creating the video. Then you can watch the final result!
Creating Italian Memories
Background To The Video Collaboration
Towards the end of 2016, following an initial discussion, I started a collaboration with One Stop Italy. They specialize in Italian villa holidays, large group rentals, weddings and more.
Early this year, I came across a wonderful pianist Johannes Hirschmann. I spent a happy time listening to his music and loved it. I asked him if he would let me use one of his pieces as background music and I was delighted when he agreed. The beautiful piece I selected is ‘Watching the Beautiful Walk By’. It works beautifully with the images I selected for the video.
Pulling Together The Video
There were two (minor) challenges in pulling together the video. The first involved allocating the 45 images to the tempo of the music (Barnet Boy had to listen to the music many times as I went over and over it until I was happy with it). The second challenge was keeping the video to a reasonable length (given the number of images) in order to engage the viewer throughout. But it was fun to do and I am pleased with the end result. The music track is longer than the actual video which I solved by fading the music at the end (with Johanne’s kind permission of course!). Gillian provided valuable editing suggestions for which I am grateful. Barnet Boy also watched various versions of it and provided useful comments.
Creating Italian Memories
Here is the finished product ‘Creating Italian Memories’. I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed creating it.
