Four Personal Favorite Images

As part of a challenge in 2018 I had to pick some of my personal favorite images and it wasn’t easy!

A Fond Look At Four Personal Favorite Images

In 2018 I had over 2,000 images available for sale as prints with many available to licence. I had reason to go through my portfolio and select a representative sample of images. As a buyer that would probably be mission impossible faced with so many to choose from. For the artist it was inevitable that it would come down to my personal favorite images.

Of course it wasn’t as straightforward as that. There were criteria to be adhered to that some of my personal favorites didn’t meet. There is always a tendency, in my case anyway, to see more recent work more favorably than older work. So, it was a challenge. I wanted to share with you four of the images I picked and why I selected them. It shows a bit of my thinking behind the creation of the images too.

Autumn Color/Fall Color

Producing my recent series of autumn/Fall images (written about in my blog) was very satisfying. A personal favorite from that collection would be ‘Tuscan Countryside in Autumn’.

There are several things that make this a favourite. I actually stumbled across this scene! Stopping the car to take another photograph, it was only when I turned around to walk back to the car that I saw this, hidden away off to my right. I remember the little leap in my heart at how pretty it all was. For me, this image really depicts autumn/Fall in Central Italy. The little vineyard nestling in front of the shelter of the tall trees at the bottom of the hillside. The beautiful fall colors highlighted in the sunshine. Just beautiful, even if I do say so myself!

The Intriguing Shadows and Light Effects of Archways

Personal favourite
Arch to Arch Citta della Pieve

I love archways as I have written before. There are quite a few personal favorites involving arches but the one that stands out for me is ‘Arch to Arch Citta della Pieve’.

I took the photograph on New Year’s Day 2017. It was bitterly cold. As I stood in the shadows of the buildings I was freezing and working hard to stop camera shake! The contrast of the dark shade under the arch with the brilliant sunshine on the other side was completely seductive.

Looking at this picture is, to me, like eating a piece of chocolate. Very satisfying. This shouldn’t come as a surprise to regular readers who know I am nuts.

There Has To Be A Cat

Personal Favourite
Stop Snoring

It wouldn’t be me if there wasn’t a cat included in my personal favorite selection. ‘Stop Snoring’ is a personal favorite because the kitten was fast asleep, snoring very loudly! If only the image could get across that sound. It was cute and adorable and that is what I tried to depict.

The vast majority of my work is in color but I really liked this as a black and white with the background blurred.  It cut it down to just the fact that that this was a cute kitten fast asleep and oblivious to the world!

Racing Red

Racing Red

The image ‘Racing Red’ is the last of my four personal favorites I wanted to talk about today. The original photograph on which this is based was taken at the Monte Cetona car rally in Tuscany. The rally was loud, noisy, lots of people and it was a very hot day, with the sun reflecting off the participating cars and motorcycles. I wanted to create an image that would get across that feeling of excitement and energy.

The final image shows a part of a motorcycle, bright red and shiny. An equally bright red motorcycle helmet with goggles has been placed on the seat and you can imagine the person wearing it. To me it captures the energy of that wonderful day.

  1. Wow. I have loved the Tuscan style for so many years. Although I am thinking of lightening it up a bit now, my home has always had the gold, burgundy, yellow and green of the Tuscan I had in my mind. Seeing this photo of the vineyard in fall shows me where the colors actually originated. It is absolutely gorgeous!

  2. As always, a well written and illustrated blog. Having seen most of your other images – I do like the ones you have chosen – they are well representative of your best work.
