Amusement Arcade A Poem

Amusement Arcade is a poem I wrote about ten years ago. I thought it was time it made it to my blog!

Amusement Arcade

My mind functions like a game

in an amusement arcade.

It has the answers to every question ever asked,

every experience, every emotion,

all available

but just out of reach.

Sometimes words and people

are like shadows in my consciousness,

vague memories,

out of reach of my mental grasp

but with a taste or smell of familiarity

and, sometimes, a discrete colour

I can just see in the distance.

The surprise of recognition

of an old friend

as their mask becomes transparent

and their true being shimmers through.

Or sometimes its an old friend

in a new package.

What I do know is

we are all on the same path

all in our different ways

and in our different circumstances.

we must embrace our journey

with all its struggles and happiness

allowing ourselves the space to grow.

And not to be afraid to play along the way.
