Enhance The Mood With Oriental Mosaic Lamps

Having lots of animals in the house makes lighting real candles dangerous. Think whiskers and live flames, not to mention knocked over candles and wooden beams. So I enhance the mood in my house with colorful lamps, including oriental mosaic lamps.

Light Sensitivity

My eyes are very light sensitive which means, much like Gremlins, I have to avoid bright lights.

In the past I would have many lit candles around the house in the evening as I enjoy the low lighting and atmosphere they create. To these I gradually added a range of Tiffany style lamps which I mentioned in a blog about what art I have in my living room.

New Additions To My Dining Room

More recently I have added to my dining room a small collection of oriental mosaic lamps. The glass is not painted, the glass is blown with the unique colors then cut into small pieces of precise size to be used in the mosaic designs.

The oriental mosaic lamps are quite pretty during the day (more so than the Tiffany lamps). This is partly because of the reflection from some of the mosaic tiles used and the fact that some light passes through the lampshade even during the day. The ornate shapes of the lampshade holders, made of brass and filigree, also add a bit of interest during the day.

Lamps Come Alive At Night

But these lamps come alive at night when they illuminate the darkness with pretty shapes and colors. They really enhance the mood of the room and complement the four copper, hand made up-lighter shades I bought in Marrakesh in Morocco many years ago.

Turkish Handmade Lamps

My two new oriental mosaic lamps are Turkish and handmade. I found a video that shows how they are made which is quite interesting to see. The narration is in Italian. The video clearly shows the work that goes into these handmade lamps.

Reasonable Cost To Enhance Your Decor

I might add that these oriental mosaic lamps do not break the bank. I paid $50 euros for this green lamp and it was well worth the money when you think of the hand crafting that has gone into making the mosaic lampshade.

Consider them as an option next time you are looking to enhance the mood/ambiance of your room. They are worth a look and bring a little bit of the exotic into your home.
