Well I am pleased to say that my local exhibition ‘Paciano – Il mio Paciano’ was a great success. Here is a sneak peak behind the scenes.
Barnet Boy took all of the framed prints into Paciano and put them in the room where the exhibition is taking place. I then spent quite a few hours getting everything in place. And trying to find all the bits and pieces I needed in the various bags I had taken along.
Challenges?
There were two main challenges.
Fitting Everything Into The Space
The first was getting all 23 images to fit in the available space in a cohesive way. Although I had worked out exactly what was going to go where, when I came to set it up I had to throw my plans out of the window and work within the space. It helped that I had some very loud music going and was caught dancing around the room by the cleaner (my reputation as a nutter is secure).
Arthritic Fingers
The second challenge is laughable really but it was a physical one. I suffer with arthritis in my fingers and Tony at Canada (the hardware shop in Castiglione del Lago – I kid you not) had come up with a great idea for hanging the descriptions. This involved punching reinforced holes in the top of the description sheets and then using shower curtain rings to hang them on the frames. I had prepared all the descriptions and punched the holes earlier but I really struggled with the shower curtain rings. They had to be opened, slotted through the holes, hung on the frame and then clipped shut. There are 48 of them and I only managed to close 10 before it got too much for me. So Barnet Boy to the rescue again!
So Pleased With The Final Result
As well as the prints from the exhibition being for sale, I had postcards of the images and a book of the exhibition available to purchase. You can read more about that here.
Presentation in Italian
At 3pm the exhibition started and then I really was an ‘artist at work’ dealing with queries and explaining the story behind my images to customers. At 5.30pm the Vice-Mayor started off the whole formal inauguration by showing my YouTube video of the exhibition, and then followed the formal speeches. I was asked (by audience members) to give an explanation of each of the images with reference to the video. Unrehearsed and in Italian but it worked well.
The exhibition looked good and I am delighted with how it finished up. That room was positively humming with the colors and energy in my work.
Prints Available
All pieces in the exhibition are for sale on-line as prints and costs will vary depending on the size and framing selected plus shipping costs. See where to buy prints of my work on my art website.

Great display, Dorothy, and a unique use for shower curtain rings. Congrats once again! 🙂
