That’s life left dripping down the walls looks at the powerful message, and equally powerful performance, of Paolo Nutini‘s track ‘Iron Sky’. I am avid music fan and this is one of my favorite all time live performances.
That’s Life Left Dripping Down The Walls
It Brought Me To Tears
The first time I saw the video below featuring a live performance of Iron Sky I sat with my mouth open. The combination of the music, the lyrics, the use of an extract from an old film and the power for the performance by Paolo Nutini is stunning. I ended up in tears!
The ‘iron sky’ is a metaphor for our closed minds. The song is about the need to rise above our delusions and the mass confusion within our society to overcome hate and fear. Something I explore in my image ‘The Captive Mind‘.
Lyrics Really Hit Home
This verse particularly caught my eye:
Oh, that’s life
Left dripping down the walls
Of a dream that cannot breathe
In this harsh reality
Mass confusion spoon fed to the blind
Serves now to define our cold society
It all seems particularly pertinent in the mad times in which we live. And the clear expression of the song by the artist, feeling the emotion of the lyrics, as he performs gives a poignancy to it all.
The Great Dictator
The song features an extract from an old black and white film called The Great Dictator. The film features Charlie Chaplin starring in his first sound film.
