Why not spend a wonderful couple of hours at the annual flower market in Cetona, Tuscany?
Cetona in Fiore
What is Cetona in Fiore?
Cetona is a medieval town set high in the Tuscan hills in Italy. I wrote about it in an earlier blog where I called it ‘a photographer’s dream’. Add to that their annual flower festival ‘Cetona in Fiore’ and you have something pretty special.
The ‘mostra mercato di fiori e piante’ (the exhibition market of flowers and plants) is held annually over three days in April, in the central square, Piazza Garibaldi, of Cetona. The market opens at 9am and continues until dusk.
What Can You Buy?
There is always a wonderful array of garden plants available and this year is no exception. There is a beautiful selection of herbs (I bought five all at reasonable prices) and bedding plants. A specialist rose grower has a stall there, the smell as you walk through the roses is divine. Other stalls sell larger architectural plants. There is also a few other stalls selling crafts such as jewelry, hand woven baskets and ceramics.
Enjoying Your Day
Luckily, Cetona has plenty of free parking on the outskirts of the town which allows you a short walk to and from the car with your purchases. When you need time to reflect, or just want to sit among the flowers and enjoy the atmosphere, you can take advantage of the outside seating area of the Grand Cafe Cavour. There are various restaurants where you can enjoy a casual lunch and then go round the market again in case you missed anything!
All in all Cetona in Fiore is a great treat and well worth a visit.
Video of my Images of Cetona in Fiore 2017
As well as buying many plants for my garden, I had a wonderful time taking photographs. I have processed the images and created the following YouTube video to give you a feel of the flower market.
