Inspire Your Heart With Art

All Things Purple

31 January is Inspire Your Heart With Art Day. What better topic for an artist to write about? It also marks the end of my 31 days of blogging through January challenge – phew! By the way my next post will be a review of how that went.

Inspire Your Heart With Art

Art comes in many forms, visual art such as mine, music, books, inspirational films, theatre etc. Anything that makes your heart smile as I like to describe it. As always, there will be things that give you that boost that other people don’t like and vice-versa. But, you know, that feeling when you hear some great music that really uplifts your spirit? The joy from turning the pages of a really good book that you are totally immersed in. The pleasure from sitting looking at a painting or photograph of a beautiful place. Or sitting in a theatre as actors take you into a different world. Really ways to inspire your heart with art!

At my house we are surrounded by beautiful art. Both created by me and by other artists including some work I have commissioned. There is always music as Barnet Boy is a folk singer and I have a very large music collection which means there is nearly always music playing somewhere. I also like to dance to music in my studio while I paint! Art is such a part of our every day life.

What Makes Your Heart Smile?

I like the phrase ‘follow what makes your heart smile’. In 2018 I was invited to give a live talk for International Women’s Day. Aimed at business women, the topic I chose was ‘Follow What Makes Your Heart Smile’. In the video I talk about my career and how being an artist makes me happy. I also give some lessons that I learned during the course of my life so far. Here is the video, I hope it inspires you to follow what makes you happy. And that includes learning to inspire your heart with art.

  1. I love that phrase, “Follow what makes your heart smile.” That is quite appropriate for those of us creating art. YOUR heart and YOUR smile are evident in your work.

Congratulations on meeting your goal of a-post-a-day for January. That is indeed a notable milestone – one that will pay you back in new followers and engagement. That will also make your heart smile.

  2. Art is my passion and heart. I love drawing. Drawing is my first hobby. I started my drawing hobby at the age of 3 years old. Now I’m an illustrator for pretty girls, handsome boys and cute things.

  3. Amazing video, love the way you talk as well. I think you did a great job. I agree, sometimes we forget about our bodies because we are stuck in our mind and head haha.

  4. That’s a beautiful lesson, Dorothy. A lesson I’ve learned over the past few years, and mostly love by today. Still, it’s always helpful to be remembered by it and to do what makes my heart smile fully conscious again. So thank you for that. Running my blogging business is what makes my heart smile. 💜

  5. It was lovely hearing your speak Dorothy! You presented to me to be very calm (despite your HR on your Fitbit). I love that you did not let a comment from some ignorant person define you. I love that you do what makes your heart smile. I did just that during my 35 years of nursing and was able to retire when I no longer felt my heart was smiling. Thanks for sharing this Dorothy!

  6. Hi Jodie, it was very nerve wracking (to put it mildly) to do a live streamed presentation with no audience (except I could see from the live comments people were watching). I am glad I came across calm and collected. Thanks for your comment.
