The Souls of Cats

Souls of Cats

The Souls Of Cats

The souls of cats dance in the wind.

They chase after fireflies and moonbeams and stars

and they lie in the sun and enjoy the warmth.

They still visit their favourite places,

the scratching tree, the water bowl,

and line up with the living for food morning and evening.

You can see the glimpse of their shadows

out of the corner of your eye

and sometimes feel them near you, purring.

For once you have loved a cat

they never leave you.

You can see them laying on kitten rock as a baby

feeding from their mum

playing with the fig tree and learning to catch lizards.

You can see them grooming their kin

raising their kittens

fighting for their territory.

Maybe even see their death.

But what joy to think of their paws still on the earth

and that their essence still comes to play.

The souls of cats.
